This work makes reference to "The India Report" written by Charles & Ray Eames, in the framing of the development of the National Institute of Design, Ahmedabad. In their report, they identified the lota (pot) as the most ubiquitous, perfect undesigned design. The lota is found in a variety of materials: silver, brass, plastic, clay, and stainless steel. I am interested in how it took the Eameses, as outsiders to India, to bring recognition to ideas of indigenous "design". I am interested in their role in the pedagogical underpinnings of design education in the post-colonial landscape of India.
